Scope of Works
The pod measures approximately 40 metres in length and 9 metres in height. Once the steel structure was in place point cloud surveying technology was utilised to ensure accuracy of design and manufacture, in addition to minimising the work required on site. The pod is used as the main library at the Suffolk One sixth form thus requiring certain acoustic properties. To achieve this the entire structure has been covered with a specially sourced acoustic membrane.
The resulting external surface is clad with oak T&G construction boards. Each board is carefully fitted with a 1mm horizontal and 2mm vertical gap to provide movement joints throughout the complex curving structure.
