Proudly setting the standard in Tier 1 specialist joinery and interior fit-outs since 1981, TMJ Interiors has had the privilege of working on some truly exciting projects.

From the refurbishment of 10 Downing Street to delivering the RIBA award-winning Bloomberg Headquarters, the past forty years has seen TMJ establish itself as one of the foremost fit-out companies in the UK.

With so much going on, it can sometimes be difficult to find the time to pause and reflect on the work we do.

That’s why this month we’ve taken the time to review some of the frequently asked questions relating to fit-out companies to help explain our world a little better.

What is a fit-out company?

Whilst it’s a term that we use frequently and take for granted, more than a hundred people ask Google “what is a fit-out company?” each month.

With this in mind, it seems that it would be useful to provide a clear definition of this phrase.

In short, a fit-out company refers to a company that readies interior spaces for use. Picking up where the developers leave off, a fit-out company installs ceilings, lays down flooring, erects partitions, and provides furnishings and finishing touches.

Ultimately, a fit-out company is responsible for designing and delivering a space that is fit for purpose. Whether it’s commercial or residential, they bring buildings to life, defining their distinct look and feel.

At TMJ Interiors, we use the latest technology and premium materials to ensure that our fit-outs lead the way and are marked by a distinct sense of quality. We also take the time to understand the needs of our clients to ensure that their spaces allow them to work efficiently and serve as a natural extension of their brand.

How much does a fit-out cost?

Like all highly bespoke services, the cost of a fit-out will depend entirely on the scope of the project.

For example, a residential fit-out typically costs less than a large-scale commercial fit-out. An important caveat, however, is that the design will also impact the overall cost.

In other words, if a residential fit-out was to include sophisticated elements that required hours of craftsmanship to complete, this may well make it more expensive than a more standard commercial fit-out.

Really, the only way to accurately determine the cost of a fit-out is to contact a company like TMJ Interiors to discuss your requirements to help identify just how much it is likely to cost.

What is included in the fit-out stage?

Taking an empty space and transforming it into one that is a joy to work or live in, the fit-out stage is fairly extensive in nature.

From the installation of large features and systems to more subtle touches like window treatments and lighting, it would be fair to answer the question of “what is included in the fit-out stage?” by saying “pretty much everything you see once you walk into a building”.

Driven by the requirements of a tenant or business, each fit-out is unique and requires the talents of various skilled craftsmen to bring it to life.

The success of an interior fit-out project also relies on teams who work behind-the-scenes. From the professionals that draw up the contracts to the staff in logistics and warehousing, it takes an abundance of skills and coordination to complete a fit-out project.

At TMJ Interiors, we have developed our own facilities and processes to efficiently provide all of these services. Specifically, our operations are broken down in the following way:

Pre-Contract:

Made up of experienced professionals, our pre-contract team takes care of providing 3D prints, samples and design advice to effectively begin the fit-out process.

Design Development:

Composed of Design Managers and Technicians, our design development team collaborates to create wholly ergonomic and inspiring environments.

Manufacture:

Working in a bespoke built 75K sq ft manufacturing facility, our team of over 80 skilled craftsmen work together to produce some seriously breathtaking features for our clients.

Logistics and Warehousing:

Thanks to a fleet of 6 FORS Gold delivery vehicles, TMJ Interiors is able to hand deliver all of our work straight from the warehouse. Overseeing this entire process allows us to effectively quality check all of our work to ensure that it meets the high standard that we’ve become known for.

The combination of these teams and facilities ensures that we are able to offer our clients a seamless experience from the moment they first imagine their new space to the moment they open the door to see it.

In addition to this, TMJ Interiors has a firm commitment to ongoing aftercare and are available to assist and support our clients once they have moved into their new space.

Responsible for delivering fit-outs for a range of highly prestigious residential and commercial properties, our team also takes care to properly understand the nuances of the businesses and individuals we work with to ensure their spaces reflect their brand and values.

How long does an office fit-out take?

Much like cost, the duration of a fit-out will depend on the complexity involved. More sophisticated projects will often take slightly longer than more conventional ones.

Having delivered fit-outs for over forty years, the team at TMJ Interiors is able to capably estimate timelines. This allows our clients to make plans with confidence and trust that their bespoke space will be fully operational the moment that they need it.

Altogether, TMJ Interiors continues to be one of the leading and most cutting-edge interior fit out companies in the UK. With an uncompromising focus on quality and dedication to developing talent, we bring together all of the elements necessary to design and deliver remarkable projects.
