As one of TMJ’s apprentices you will be working on some of the most prestigious projects in the United Kingdom, providing specialist joinery for both high end residential clients and commercial clients such as Sky, Expedia, NBC Universal and Estee Lauder.

Austen Virr – Trainee Surveyor
“I began my career at TMJ in July 2013 as an Apprentice Joiner, leaving school at 16. Since joining TMJ I have hit the ground running. I firstly completed my Level 2 NVQ and Diploma in Bench Joinery whilst working in the workshop.
My ambitious attitude to work and life, led me to want to learn and gain more experiences within TMJ. My next stop was a 9 months stint in the Design Department, here I completed my Level 3 NVQ and Diploma in Bench Joinery, whist completing in house Cad Training. At college I was awarded the Worshipful Company of Joiners and Ceilers Award, an award for the Best Performing Second Year Timber Crafts Student. This was a fantastic achievement of mine!
The level of opportunity and encouragement I received, whilst working towards my NVQ and Diploma in Bench Joinery has been excellent. In June 2016, I took on the challenge to work within the Estimating Department for 6 months, here I learnt how no two projects are alike and my joinery and design experience were beneficial in my understanding of estimating projects.
I was given the opportunity in November 2016 to join to the Surveying Department, where I am currently a Trainee Surveyor; I partnered with an experienced surveyor team member and I can really feel my knowledge and confidence grow. Being accepted on the TMJ Leadership Programme in November 2016, was a great personal achievement and I look forward to the training and working with senior members of the TMJ team. My current role is the one I have most enjoyed and am thankful for the opportunities TMJ gave me to follow my ambitions and grow with TMJ.”
